Tight calves and frequent cramps in my feet. Anyone else get them and know how to prevent them? It can't be lack of exercise, I spend hours wandering around on my feet to relieve the pain in my pelvis. Paul Barrett

I get cramp in my feet, well I think it is cramp. It happens if I get my foot into a certain position, been happening a lot recently, not a nice thing when it starts.
I feel it coming on, then my big toe tries to go behind the toe next to it, I find it hard to move the toes on the foot affected. I tend to put my other foot on top of my toes and try to massage the toes with he bottom of my foot. I was told by my OT to drink tonic water, not the sugar free one mind you.....Oh dear calories, calories!!

Jenni...does that mean that it's not cramp? It kept happening in the early hours of this morning, as soon as I managed to get my foot to feel normal it started again.
Sorry Paul asking questions on your thread.

Hi Paul , I get them but for me its a direct side effect of imatinib, I usaully try jiggling from the thigh whilst sitting down but that depends on the state of the knee whether I can do it or not. Happens most when I'm very tired and funny enough sleep seems to help. Best wishes Sheila

Hi Paul Tightening of the calves sounds like fluid retention, common in RA and associated drugs. This can then lead to cramp in the feet because of restricted blood flow. Generally worsens as day progresses so more noticeable watching TV in the evenings or when you clamber into bed at night. Worth speaking to GP about possible low dose diuretic for a time to see if it improves. Could also be restless leg syndrome, a common immune disorder. Lyn
